Danske Aviser (Android) – Privacy Policy
This policy applies to the Danske Aviser app for Android, developed by Barış Efe and published on Google Play. It explains what the app does with information while you use it.
In short
- There is no account. We never ask for your name, e-mail address or phone number.
- Your favourites, your newspaper order, the newspapers you add and your settings stay on your device only.
- The app uses Google services for advertising, usage statistics and crash reports. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, statistics, crash reports and personalised advertising run only with your consent.
- Articles open on the publishers' own websites, inside the app; those sites' own privacy policies apply there.
- The Seneste nyt (latest news) tab downloads headlines straight from the publishers' public feeds; nothing passes through our server.
- Newspaper names and logos are shown for identification only, and a publisher can have them removed on request.
Information that stays on your device
Your favourite newspapers, the order you arrange them in, newspapers you add yourself, how often you open each one, and your settings are stored only on your device and are not sent to us. The optional Backup & restore feature writes these to a file in a folder you choose on your device; nothing is uploaded. Headlines and their thumbnails are cached on the device so that they open quickly.
Pages you read are shown in the app's built-in browser (Android WebView). Like any browser it keeps cookies, cache and history for the sites you visit, on your device; you can clear them at any time from Android's app settings (Storage → Clear data).
Third-party services we use
| Service | What for | Information it may process |
|---|---|---|
| Google AdMob | Showing a banner advertisement on the newspaper list and, occasionally, a full-screen advertisement before a headline opens | Device and app information, IP address, interactions with the ad, the advertising ID where permitted |
| Google User Messaging Platform | Asking for and remembering your privacy choices where the law requires it | Your consent choices |
| Firebase Analytics (Google) | Understanding how the app is used, for example which newspapers are opened and from where in the app | App usage events, device and app information, approximate location derived from the IP address |
| Firebase Crashlytics (Google) | Finding and fixing crashes | Technical details at the moment of a crash (device model, Android version, app state, the host name of the page that was open) |
| Google Play in-app review | Letting you rate the app | Your rating and review go straight to Google Play; the app does not receive them |
How Google handles this information: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, Google advertising, Firebase privacy.
Newspaper websites and headlines
When you open a newspaper, its pages load directly from that newspaper's website in the app's built-in browser. Those sites may use their own cookies, advertising and analytics; their privacy policies apply, and we have no control over them. As with any web page, your IP address reaches the newspaper's servers when a page loads.
The Seneste nyt (latest news) tab and the headline pictures are downloaded straight from the publishers' public feeds and servers to your device; as when visiting any web page, your IP address reaches those servers. None of this passes through a server of ours.
Our own server
To keep the newspaper list up to date, the app downloads a public list file from our server (barisefe.com) at most once a day. The newspaper logos shown in the list are also served from our server, so your device does not contact a newspaper until you open it. These requests carry no information about you beyond what every web request contains (your IP address and the app's version); we keep only the standard, short-lived server logs needed to run the service.
Publisher names and logos
The app lists third-party newspapers and news sites by their name and logo so that you can recognise them. These names and logos belong to their respective owners, are shown for identification only, and do not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those publishers. If you own a publication and would like its name or logo removed or replaced, write to us at gunebakan@gmail.com and we will do so within a few days.
Consent and your choices
In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent when it is first opened. Without consent, Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics stay off and only limited, non-personalised advertising is shown. You can change your choice at any time from the app's menu (Privacy options). In some US states the app likewise asks whether personalised advertising may be shown.
Denmark is in that group, so you will see the consent dialog on first launch.
Retention
Firebase Analytics event data is kept for at most 14 months. Retention of advertising and crash data is governed by Google's policies. If you e-mail us, we use your message only to reply to you and keep it no longer than needed for that.
International transfers
Google services may process information on servers outside Denmark and outside the European Union.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, or to object to its processing, and to data portability. Because the app holds no account and the information above is processed by Google under its own policies, the quickest route for data held by Google is Google's own controls (for example My Ad Center). For anything else, write to us; you may also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this page from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version. Material changes take effect when they are published here.
